Sando, this famous Japanese sandwich, can now be enjoyed in Paris 6th arrondissement thanks to the opening of the Benchy coffee shop. Savory or sweet, you cannot resist it, as it is often paired with delicious matcha latte!

Is Paris 6th arrondissement becoming one of the new and unmissable neighborhoods for all fans of Asian specialties? After Mille & Un and La Maison du Mochi, now please welcome a new temple of good food shining a light on sando. This famous Japanese sandwich seems to have become a must in the city and conquered Parisians’ hearts. The latest trendy spot devoted to this Japanese dish is called Benchy.

Nestled in rue du Cherche-Midi, this small store did not take long to delight locals’ taste buds, and even beyond. Inaugurated in late 2021, Benchy relies on simplicity without altering quality first with a clean and bright decoration (natural marble, vintage seats…). We love the raw walls and the exposed pipes giving an unachieved but modern look.

At Benchy – enjoying over a dozen seats – the service and reception are flawless. The perfect atmosphere to discover a short but effective menu where the famous sandos are given pride of place, savory or sweet version.

Among the best-sellers, the incredible sando tamago (egg, Japanese mayonnaise, yuzu paste) or the pastrami one. A tuna sando is also available, without forgetting the wagyu beef sando (to order the day before). The homemade white bread is as crunchy as can be. The seasoning is perfect and the balance of flavors flawless.

For the fruit sandwiches stuffed with mascarpone and whipped cream, several choices are available: clementine, kiwi, banana or even the staple strawberry sando… Chopped fruits are delicately placed between two fluffy slices of white bread. This is undeniable, it is a walk down memory lane!

And to pair these sandos, Benchy – also excelling at being a coffee shop – serves a selection of hot drinks, including a delicious matcha latte we highly recommend. Or, you can get a flat white, a hôjicha latte or some sencha tea. Beers and wines are also available on the menu.

A few homemade desserts are to be tested urgently such as the exquisite matcha cake topped with whipped cream, or the Hôjicha tea cookie, without forgetting the banana bread.
