Have we fell in love with Pierre Marcolini's Collection 2020? A bit, a lot, but it is well-deserved for this Belgian chocolatier that makes hearts (and bodies) melt with tasty chocolates with irresistible flavors.
For this Christmas 2020, the chef (self-isolating in Belgium), has decided to give it all to caramel and presents many subtle and very well presented products. See how this Christmas tree can stand on your festive table with drawers hiding sweet surprises?
The 20cm-tall Christmas tree made of Cuba-Cameroun Grands Crus chocolate is proposed with a box of 36 small "câlins" and a box of 36 truffles. These câlins are balls of praline and caramel, one with pistachio, the other with coffee, or even more surprising, pine nuts flavored with lemon. As for truffles they are available in vanilla ganache and coated in light cocoa powder, and for the boldest in champagne version. For this box you shall then allow 119 euros.
Loving truffles only? The 15-truffle box is to be found in stores for 19.90 euros, in a round box likely to make people happy. As for câlins, with 6 flavors, all with infused caramel are available to taste, 9 pieces for 11.90 euros, for a small-budget gift, 21 euros for 18 pieces, and 36 pieces for 39 euros.
But the most indulging creation of the season is the Grande Couronne de Noël cake, to be enjoyed with your family over the Christmas table. Here, the same base as the Christmas tree, a box filled with truffles and câlins, the main object not being your average chocolate. See for yourself:
The Crown is a delicious chocolate snack based on dried fruits - Faro almond, caramelized pecans, smooth caramel, Iranian pistachio praline - coated in a homemade dark chocolate shell (Cameroun-Cuba Grands Crus). We tasted it and it is wonderful.
The only flaw, its price, 130 euros for this treat.
But Pierre Marcolini has a significant point: the crown can be delivered everywhere in France, and this year, the slightest attention to your family and friends is all the more so as important because coronavirus has us not being able to meet as usual.
In addition to the Christmas chocolates, the chocolatier comes up with 4 yule logs. He revisits the "Envol" entremets that got the 1st prize of the 1995 World Cup. Envol is a delicate mix of chocolate, orange crème brûlée and hazelnut crunch. As for coffee lovers, the chef offers a 100% coffee and coffee buttercream (low in sugar and flavored with coffee) yule log with sponge cake and almond nougatine.
If you are more into fruits and slightly sour pairings, Pierre Marcolini has got you covered with the coconut & mango yule log: Coconut Bavarian cream, mango and lime zest core, coconut dacquoise cake topped with fruit crunch (raspberry and strawberry). €49 serving 6 people.
And if you happen to be in a rush, an Advent Calendar will help you not emptying the box... The collection is already available on sale because big chocolates go to big gourmands!
