If you've never dreamed of succumbing to all the pastries when you walk into a bakery, throw me the first stone! Yes, I admit it, the first thing I read in a restaurant is the dessert menu! Yes, I'm one of those gourmands who likes to sample desserts from all over the restaurant table. And my biggest pet peeve is tea time.
A veritable institution in the UK, tea time is the equivalent of slunch. Petit fours, viennoiseries and pastries, served with a hot drink, fruit juice or even a flute of champagne, make for a gourmet meal. And if that's not enough for you, you can add pastries to the à la carte menu, so you can treat yourself and your friends, mom or sweetie. In France, sweets sometimes take over, and often savoury dishes aren't on the menu, so it's more like a tea party with a farandole of pastries and cakes to enjoy.
The tea time or goûter is an opportunity to take a sweet afternoon break in a beautiful setting. It's like taking a breath of fresh air, letting yourself be pampered by the staff and succumbing to the delicacy of the surroundings. It may seem expensive at first, but don't forget, you won't go hungry in the evening!
