Previously, we were enthusiast to share how we found La Tropicale, a fantastic ice-cream parlor in Paris serving iced creations based on unique flavors. Well, we went back for their fantastic brunch. Spoiler alert: it did not disappoint!
If you enjoy discovering new flavors as well as little-known dishes and happen to be looking for an affordable brunch, here is the perfect place! For €23 on site, La Tropicale Glacier serves a menu including Greek yogurt & granola, seasonal juice, and a hot beverage of your choice (including Early Birds’ special coffee – a local artisan from the Marché d’Aligre close by), an assortment of three savory dishes served with a sorbet, and the dessert of your choice. Excluding drinks, the brunch is also available for €20 on delivery.
What you need to know is hat every week, a totally different brunch is served on Sundays from noon to 3:30 p.m.! The theme can be a country’s own gastronomy or you can land on a menu inspired by a color, a type of ingredient… We can fully trust La Tropicale to surprise us.
So, when we came, we enjoyed an Iranian brunch. As a foretaste, we had yogurt to drink that was a mix between an Indian lassi and a Turkish Sahlab. Rather liquid but creamy, this drink was flavored with cinnamon, geranium water and topped with walnut and pomegranate. It was served with blood orange and beetroot smoothie to awake our taste buds!
Then, we had three mezzes. The colorful dishes whetted our appetites. We tackled Iranian stew based on tomato and Espelette pepper and bell pepper with egg casserole, sprinkled with barberry. We were also delighted by the yellow rice with fava beans, grape and iced mint cream.
Then, the yogurt-spinach and garlic with walnut borain strikes the last blow. In each of these dishes we found very different flavors but that complete each other. The serving sizes enable us to fully enjoy the flavors while keeping enough room for dessert. A genuine but brilliantly achieved high-wire challenge!
As for the last stage of our Sunday’s road trip: dessert. On the occasion, you can choose: a slice of cake, roasted fruits with ice cream, an ice cream scoop or a creation especially created for the brunch, which was an Iranian pistachio cake served with rose and Sichuan pepper ice cream.
The cake being rather low in sugar, the ice cream completes the dessert and gives the perfect final touch to end this Sunday’s brunch. But as we have a great sweet tooth we could not resist the idea of getting an ice cream scoop with lavender-blackcurrant ice cream and another one based on everlasting. Well, we really love this spot!
