Lutetia Hotel has finally opened!

We have been waiting for the news for a long time now: the reopening of the famous Lutetia. Closed for renovation works since 2014, the legendary hotel in rue de Sèvres has been restructured to fit in the 21st century with more spacious and cozier layouts. In addition to – bigger – rooms, the hotel comes back with a jazz bar, an open-air courtyard and a 700-sqm spa to relax and enjoy the quietness in the heart of Paris. Meet on July 12, 2018!

The new Lutetia is slated to open on July 12, 2018 2018! In four years of work, no picture nor model has been leaked, but Jean-Michel Wilmotte explains the project: “We have been looking for traces of the original Lutetia: the one dating back to 1910. We’ve discovered incredible frescoes. And we’ve been inspired by the past to do it all over again”, regretting “multiples interventions on the building, without caring about sticking to the original project” in a hundred years.

About the Lutetia. The Lutetia has been thought up by Aristide and Marguerite Boucicaut, the creators of Le Bon Marché “so that big provincial clients could be housed in a close establishment and matching their routine when they came to run errands in Paris”. Unfortunately, they passed away before its opening, but the Lutetia opened thanks to architect Louis-Hippolyte Boileau who built Le Bon Marché.

In the 7-story building, 231 rooms to please Le Bon Marché customers, as well as artists and intellectuals from the 20’s, 30’s. Emile Zola, Ernest Hemingway, Samuel Beckett, André Malraux and Saint-Exupéry used to come and get inspired by the walls for their works, so much that some artist clients would then decorate a suite, like Arman and David Lynch… If the hotel delights people, it doesn’t match the requirements of a 5-star hotel.

Never mind! Israeli group Alrov (owner since August 2010) accepted 3 years of works, managed by Wilmotte et Assocités (to whom we owe the renovations of the Mandarin Oriental Paris, La Réserve in Ramatuelle and the White 1921 in Courchevel).

Moving on to the architecture, Jean-Michel Wilmotte already announced the dark lounge will become an indoor garden, whilst the basement will house a spa and a 17-m pool. The idea is to bring lounges to their former glory and attract hotel and restaurant customers to the lobby, the functional heart of the place.

Second difference, only 184 rooms (out of the 231 original ones) have been kept, some becoming bigger in terms of surface and service, including 47 turned to suites including 7 unique suites with their own universe and a penthouse (and we can already figure the wonderful view out).

The smallest rooms, the “Supérieures” rooms are comfortable, covering 28 square meters, with their king size bed and an elegant and modern decoration. Bigger rooms, suites Lutetia covering 55 square meters are more like a Parisian flat with paneling and carpets in shades of blue. Count about €600 and €1,500 for one night according to rooms and season.

Moving on to the food offer, the Lutetia hired the top chef Gérald Passedat, already managing a 3-star in Marseille, to rethink about the menu of the Brasserie, a clean menu in an entirely redone restaurant. Indeed, the Brasserie will come back to its original shape from 1910, covering 2 floors and a terrace to welcome up to 180 people.

A spectacular jazz bar, conceived by Jean-Michel Wilmotte, will also offer futuristic and traditional twists, as well as a very exclusive cigar bar in an atmosphere reminding us of a private club that will open onto a private courtyard!

We’re looking forward to discovering the address again!
