Marvel superheroes are packing their bags at Disneyland Paris... but not in just any hotel! After several years of offering the Season of Superheroes, the Parisian park has opened its brand new hotel, Disney's Hotel New York - The Art of Marvel, on June 21, 2021. After several years of renovation work, Disney's Hotel New York, the resort's flagship, is getting a makeover to integrate the universe ofIron Man, Captain America and all the Avengers into its atmosphere. A renovation that is part of the investment planned for the expansion of the Walt Disney Studios park, with three new lands.
This one was supposed to open in the summer of 2020, but coronavirus obliges, the hotel was forced to postpone the reception of the first guests to the Greek calendars. The idea behind this new hotel? To recreate the world of a modern New York art gallery... And the lobby in question seems to serve as a nice showcase for this art gallery. The reason? More than 300 works, including some that marked the 80th anniversary of the House of Ideas, will be displayed throughout the hotel.
A huge makeover of its 4-star hotel, renamed for the occasion "The Art of Marvel". Because that's the whole point of this makeover: to show the artistic side of comics and its influence on modern art, making this hotel a real museum. In total, as Tom Müller, designer-scenographer at Walt Disney Imagineering, explains,"more than 110 artists have been solicited" for a unique "exhibition" ... and evolving, since the idea, still according to Tom Müller, is to"continue the installation of works of art within the hotel, even after the opening. The idea:"to challenge visitors through art".
A concept pushed to the limit, since between the hotel and the convention center, a real art gallery is taking place: the Jack Kirby Legacy Gallery which, as its name indicates, pays tribute to one of the pundits of Marvel Comics, creator of many superheroes (along with Joe Simon and Stan Lee) such as Captain America, the Fantastic Four, Ant-Man, the Hulk or The Eternals. Within this gallery, temporary exhibitions are to be presented, linked to the current events of Marvel. Film releases, concept art for areas and attractions in foreign parks... So many subjects that the gallery and the hotel must address. And in the rotunda, a special tribute is paid to the artist with the exhibition of a permanent collection of 21 comic book covers drawn by this legendary artist.
A new space that promises visitors a plunge"into the heart of the action and epic adventures of their favorite superheroes, from the mystical arts of Doctor Strange to the dizzying feats of Spider-Man. In total, no less than 476 standard rooms, 65 executive rooms and eight standard suites, all in the colors of your favorite superheroes, await superhero fans and which you will be able to open with your smartphone. A renovation made possible thanks to an unprecedented collaboration between Marvel Comics and Marvel Studios.
The idea of this renovation? To offer"an environment reminiscent of a luxurious and contemporary Manhattan establishment". An urban interior design,"elegant and cosmopolitan, reminiscent of the style and tastes of Tony Stark and the Avengers headquarters" and presenting"the art of Marvel in a way that reinvents the idea of an 'art hotel'".
As for the restaurants, there are two: the Downtown Restaurant, offering an all-you-can-eat buffet and featuring the largest number of artworks in the hotel, and the Manhattan Restaurant, with a tempting menu and table service. Note that in the latter, a massive chandelier weighing 110 kg and composed of 225 elements of Bohemian blown glass, created in a workshop in Prague, catches the eye from the entrance of the restaurant. A true work of art that took no less than two years to create, design and install, it echoes Thor's home world of Asgard in its structure.
On the bar side, there are also two: the Bleecker Street Lounge, in a very New York style and coming from the Doctor Strange universe, and the Skyline Bar, a typical New York high bar, looking somewhat like Tony Stark's apartments.
Two bars which propose a menu of cocktails with and without alcohol, and playful too: the Skyline Bar proposes a non-alcoholic drink with the colors of the Hulk, while on its side, the Bleecker Street Lounge honors the Sorcerer Supreme with a levitating cocktail... Nothing but that!
In terms of decoration, limited editions will be displayed in the different rooms and suites of the hotel, while the public spaces will be entitled to dazzling works of art, displayed for all to see: comics, films, posters, sculptures,Iron Man armors, storyboards, accessories and other costumes will decorate the hotel for a total immersion.
For families, there will be areas dedicated to children, such as the Marvel Design Studio, where your children can learn to draw their favorite superheroes, the Hero Training Academy, an outdoor sports area offering basketball, yoga and fitness classes, and the Super Hero Station, where hotel residents (and only residents) can take a photo with Spider-Man. Finally, the Marvel Photos Stations also invite hotel guests to take pictures of themselves in pictures taken from the Marvel universe.
And of course, the traditional stores, pools (indoor and outdoor) and gyms, inherent to each hotel of the resort. We can't wait!
