Chouchou is the lovely 4-star hotel set by the Opera welcoming Parisians and travelers in charming bedrooms inspired by Paris, and indulging them to their food court on the ground floor, accessible through the hotel and a special door on the street.
As a matter of fact, in lieu of the traditional hotel restaurant, the Chouchou bet on originality with their “Marché” featuring two eateries in a laid-back and 100% scrumptious food court honoring French produces from short delivery systems coming from small producers. Just fantastic.
On one hand, the turf held by La Grande Bouffe providing many artisanal cold cuts from Tarn or Pontivy, craft and farm cheeses from Maison Beillevaire, a delicious baked camembert (€16), Breton buckwheat pancakes (€10), and even sausage buckwheat pancakes, traditional style, with onion compote and mustard cream or hot-dog style with homemade ketchup.
On the other hand, the surf by La Mer à Boire to satisfy all cravings and appetites. On the menu, the best of seafood, depending on seasons and tides: oysters from Cancale and Quiberon, raw or with topping, PDO whelks from Granville (€10) to dip in mayonnaise, pink shrimps, smoked fishes, and squid, grilled shrimp skewers. As for us, we went for the toasted salmon roll (€17), buttery, hearty and crunchy as can be!
To order, nothing simpler: order at the counter and leave with a pager that rings once your order is ready. In the meantime, rush to the winter garden to find a seat at one of the big tables, perfect for groups of friends, or a table for two, to get more intimacy.
Once you are comfortably seated, enjoy live music performed in the Marché. As a matter of fact, the hôtel Chouchou hosts concerts several times a week to discover the future French singing stars. Great atmospheres on live show nights, we were there, we can tell you!
Moving on to drinks, hôtel Chouchou’s Marché has a lovely list of clever cocktails like the delicate Initiale Bébé (vodka, lime, violet essence, raspberry liquor, crémant; €14), the powerful La Nuit Je Mens (whisky, vanilla, spices; €14), the elegant Vague à l’Âme (cognac, lemony mint; €14), or the Moscow mule but Chouchou style.
And for all those missing some iodic, the famous Oyster Party with oyster for €1 is back on Tuesday nights at the Marché du Chouchou. Calling all fans!
