Le Cinq Codet
Métro Invalides, École Militaire
(à partir de )
Le Cinq Codet is the new 5-starred hotel on the left bank. Located in the 7th arrondissement, within walking distance from the Invalides, the hotel opened on 1 November 2014. We have been given a tour... and we are in awe!
Superbly located at the corner of a beautiful white building with pure lines, Le Cinq Codet has everything to seduce us. The building used to be a France Telecom exchange... It is hard to imagine that people worked here in cramped conditions especially now that the brand new hotel is dazzling after two years of design and work.
The interior designer, Jean-Philippe Nuel, offers a new outlook of the hotel trade: he wanted to conceive each room as a small pied-à-terre and adds then some extra life and a touch of color in each room of the hotel.
Let's start with the common areas... Guests arrive in a reception area looking quite like a living room: a wide sofa, beautiful art books and coffee tables contribute to give warmth and style to the hotel. Foundations and a new genre of lamps set the tone: Le Cinq Codet is decorated with leather and wood, two materials riding the wave of the smart and sober. Above all, the whole exudes color and joy!
Then, before having a look around the rooms, we stop for a drink or for a snack at the bar/restaurant featuring a digital fireplace. The average-sized restaurant is pleasant: you can come freely with your lover, your clients or your family. Jean-Philippe Nuel imposes nothing, even if it is confusing, because it is no easy task to define a precise clientele for this hotel... And so much the better! The principle is modern: everything mixes up and the dividing walls are no longer up. The choice of furniture and tones brings life into the whole: we bid farewell to minimalism and say hello to spicy cocktails! As a bonus: the wonderful terrace which is undoubtedly going to be our HQ as soon as sunny days are back!
Whilst climbing upstairs we catch sight of a spa reserved for guests with an outdoor whirlpool bath and a small but very well equipped gym. The hotel corridors are entertaining: instead of being the regular long series of doors (including the terrifying monotony which has inspired some horror movies), the mezzanines of the rooms invite themselves in the hallway and punctuate it with triangular shapes changing the light and adding originality as soon as you arrive.
We finally have a glimpse of the 67 rooms. The Dome suite is the biggest and absolutely incredible: conceived as a flat surrounded by a flowered terrace where you can find a whirlpool bath. It features a comfortable but not tawdry luxury with beautiful materials, exquisite colors and modern curves. This goes without saying that the room features a view of the Invalides golden dome...
The duplex rooms are more modest yet equally surprising. Simple and functional they gracefully roll out their stairs: we climb from the living room up to the bedroom where lays a bathtub and we dream of romantic nights facing the wide windows... Well, the simplest rooms are often the loveliest.
When all is said and done, what we remember of the Cinq Codet is its very modern outlook of luxury which has got rid of its superficial rags to focus on comfort and warmth. Leather for the long sofas, wood from floor to ceiling and a general feeling of well-being. The hotel is solid, joyful and this is the reason we like it. Guests are welcomed with open arms and are provided with the possibility of experiencing the hotel trade in a personal manner thanks to the principle of pied-à-terre rooms... And once again, it is for everyone: professionals, tourists, families, lovers, etc.
We will come back!
