Since each birth has a story to tell, I invite you to discover Gemini Family. Created in 2012, Gemini Family is first and foremost a Transalpine cuisine inspired by old and tasty family recipes.
The first Parisian address was created in the 7th arrondissement near Vaneau.
Facing the success it met, Gemini Family opens a second table in the Halles. And the Gemini Family saga is far from being over since Julia and Julien Zanon – the young Italian couple hiding behind these first two addresses – plan to open – with the rest of their lovely team – two new restaurants in 2017: one in Saint-Ouen, the other in Paris 17th arrondissement, on rue Legendre.
A well-deserved success that we can mostly explain by what hides in the plates, or the casserole dishes. Because Gemini Family plays the originality card by choosing to serve some pasta dishes directly from copper casserole dishes.
As for the menu then, we obviously start with antipasti and the famous mozzarella or the big burrata to share. A piece of advice: go for the smooth Stracciatella and its truffle cream, simply to die for!
Or you can get the mozzarella fritters – perfect to share – or the antipasti di Gemini for two and made of an assortment of grilled vegetables, 24-month Prosciutto and PDO mozzarella dui Bufala.
Next? It’s all about the primi piatti for pasta lovers.
All in all, 11 recipes each more mouthwatering than the last are available such as Fusilli Quattro Formaggi (based on homemade fusilli), or the real Carbonara della zia with speck, egg yolk, parmesan and artichoke or the Carbonara di Salvatore based on Pancetta, onions, cream and jumbo shrimps.
The good surprise? Gluten-free pasta and pizzas for intolerants (allow an extra €1).
Others may go for the famous Roman pizzas and once again, the choice is hard so much the options are tempting… I finally went for the pizza my neighbor ordered a few minutes earlier: the Parma with tomato sauce, mozzarella, 24-month Parma ham. Ingredients are fresh, the dough crispy and perfectly seasoned, this pizza is a bestseller you want to try!
As for the rest, you could choose between the Verduri (tomato sauce, mozzarella, eggplants, zucchinis & bell peppers), the Di Marco (tomato sauce, mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, fresh basil) or the famous poli (tomato sauce, mozzarella, anchovies, taggiasche olives & capers).
Last but not least, Gemini serves six “secondi piatti” dishes giving pride of place to veal escalope: breaded, flavored with lemon with Mozzarella di Buffal and 24-month Parma ham.
And if after all this you’re still feeling hungry, don’t deny yourself this pleasure and order a dessert by Gemini Family: panna cotta, ice cream, chocolate mousse, coffee and gourmet desserts… Honorable mention to the tiramisu classico. Based on Julien’s grandmother’s secret recipe, this tiramisu is very light and tasty and indisputably one of the best we’ve ever eaten!
We also loved the décor that is both old-fashioned and modern displayed at Gemini Les Halles – where we spent the evening. Between the school chairs unearthed in a second-hand goods dealer and the iron and wood stools and tables created by Italian artisans from Bologna, the Gemini Family team wanted to polish the visual aspect of their restaurant and all the way up to crockery… for instance, the jars in the rooms are Julien’s grandmother’s and the same ones she used to prepare the vegetables from her kitchen garden!
In other words, Gemini Family is a friendly and warm atmosphere with delicious dishes based on fresh ingredients, some recipes have been given by Julia’s and Julien’s Italian grandmother and great-aunts. It would be a shame not to go!
