Paléo Vingt et Un is the very first paleo restaurant in the French capital. This “diet” with many proved benefits returns to our origins, back to the Paleolithic era, the era of hunters-gatherers. An era during which men were strong and healthy and during which many diseases didn’t exist.
Many recent researches conducted on human skeletons and remains from this era show that men practicing paleolithic lifestyle almost didn’t know cancers, cardiovascular diseases and osteoporosis. Nowadays, there are still peoples living the same way on the Kitava island, in Papua New Guinea and not suffering of overweight, high blood pressure, diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease or Parkinson’s disease.
It’s genetic, you would say! Not really since children from these peoples who leave their people to live in town become exactly like us. It should be noted that studies proving that over-processed foods, cereals and dairy products galore, are detrimental to your health.
After having health issues, the restaurant founder, Eric Darakdjian, turned to paleolithic diet. And he was very right since this diet completely reversed his situation, allowing him now to live a long and healthy life and lightened by several pounds.
Drawing on the benefits provided by this revelation, he decided to create a restaurant to come true on the first hand and on the other hand to allow people to know more about this lifestyle and the many benefits on your health.
It’s a simple and nature restaurant we discover in a quiet street in Paris 11th arrondissement, near the Place de la Bastille. Bench seats, raw wood, wall plants and windowed façade create the backdrop. It feels like being in a cafeteria-coffee shop.
On the spot, no need to order your favorite food, the menu changes every day. Have a look at their Facebook page to know the menu of the day. Meals change according to the chef’s finds at the market and the season’s fruits and vegetables. You can go every day and you’ll never fall into tedium.
Two set menus with animal protein (for €14.50 or €16.50) and two vegan set menus (for €12.50 or €14.50) with various dishes are offered. The whole is always served with juice or lemonade of the day and including a cup of coffee.
Among the specialties, you have: soups, beef Bourguignon, Basque chicken, vegan meal, various salads, honey pork loin, vegetables tabbouleh, ancient vegetables… Typically French meals but not only, they’re revisited with sauces more suited to our health (olive oil, coconut oil, etc.) and with natural products (grains, plant creams, etc.).
When we came, we tasted the aioli cod and its sauce with roasted vegetables and a gourmet paleo bowl with cherry tomatoes, red cabbages, cucumber, carrot, fig, roasted vegetables and dried beef. Rich and gourmet meals that brought us peps and energy for the rest of the day, without the famous sudden tiredness because of the carbs overflow.
These dishes are also suited to vegetarians and vegans. Take your squad with you, you’ll all eat at the same table.
In terms of dessert, chia pudding, raspberry muffin, chocolate marble cake were on the day’s menu. We tried the famous Energy Balls with dates, dried apricot, almond, cashew and coco. Not too sweet but very tasty, they were served with a delicious coffee, it was ace.
For the record, the place also has very good fresh juices made with an extractor, with tonic mixes and it’s also the perfect spot to bring your laptop and have a tasty coffee in the afternoon.
