Sharing, friendliness and quality cuisine are the watchwords of Yansai: this new canteen promoting Asian street food and nestled in Les Batignolles. Undoubtedly the best gua baos in Paris!

If in Paris you are looking for a place giving the best of Asian street food, we highly recommend going to the 17th arrondissement to pay a visit to Yansai.

Only manga fans would have grasped the subtlety; Yansai is the backward-slang of Saiyans, these famous warriors from space as seen in manga Dragon Ball.

Like many others, cradled by this reference, the young and very friendly Thomas Li has decided to name his first Parisian business in tribute to these warriors spending their time stuffing their faces.

Fond of Asian street food, and after several stays in Asian, Thomas has opened in early July 2018, this small and warm eatery where we find on the menu all kinds of Asian street food specialties he loves, such as the Guabao from Taiwan as well as the Japanese Karaage, the Vietnamese Bobun or the Korean BAP.

Dishes that unquestionably invite to travel and make us discover flavors we are not used to enjoy in Paris.

Among the irresistible dishes, we fell for the classic Guabao with braised pork and an excellent steamed and homemade brioche bun. Inside? Stewed pork belly, mustard leaves, peanuts and cilantro. We loved the braised taste of the soft pork and the peanuts crispiness that five a delicious gustative blend.

To keep things interesting, Yansai offers a chicken Guabao with peanuts too as well as mayonnaise and a spicy dressing, a beef Guabao, a fish&chips-like fish Guabao, and finally a vegetarian Guabao with scented mushrooms and carrots.

Let’s continue with the Karaage: delicious and crispy Japanese fried chicken served with rice, sauce, and half a marinated egg, perfectly cooked with a runny yolk. Once more, we really enjoyed and it was absolutely delicious!

Let us continue with a few tapas; from iced cucumber with cilantro and sweet sauce, to spicy ribs, to homemade French fries, the Yu Xiang (seared eggplants with Yu Xiang sauce), and exquisite Tsukune chicken meatballs.

Finally, a word of advice: you do not want to leave without tasting the desserts especially the Ice Burger. As a genuine burger lover, Thomas wished to put on the menu this creation revisited like a gourmet Bao Burger with a crunchy and delicious hot bun in which a tasty matcha ice cream scoop is nestled with crispy sesame seeds and condensed milk. For even more pleasure, this ice burger is to be eaten like a real burger. Don’t hesitate to slightly press the bun to make the ice cream melt and eat it in one bite!

To pair the whole meal, Yansai has a list of several Asian beers such as Taiwan Beer, Hite, Tsingtao Beer and even Coedo Kyara and Coedo Ruri.

Very soon, Yansai will also propose tea for connoisseurs.

Let’s tell it, Yansai is one of our favorites! In addition to flavorful dishes, we also really enjoyed the décor leading to a real conviviality and exchanges with the other guests sat around large wooden tables near the open-plan kitchen.

So, are you ready to fall for Yansai concept?
