Gourmet alert! On Sundays, Hotel Grand Powers set in Paris 8th arrondissement, expects you for a brunch you won’t forget any time soon! All-you-can-eat oysters, homemade desserts and quinoa poke bowl, foodies will be more than delighted.
For this healthy and super tasty brunch, head to Café 52 set at the entrance of the hotel. In an elegant setting where Belle Epoque meets Art Décor, the whole in a warm and friendly atmosphere, we’re warmly welcomed by a smiling team before joining our seats. We’re already conquered by this convivial spirit. Now, we only have to discover what Café 52 has in store in terms of flavors.
Let’s head to the all-you-can-eat buffet set in a room next to ours. And this is absolute heaven for foodies. Surf and turf, delights for savory or sweet treat fans, everyone will find their happiness.
For sea flavors lovers, we have Norman oysters, perfectly cooked whelks, very fresh shrimps, wasabi, truffled or sea urchin taramasalata, salmon slices which shine, and pearly looks are a sign of a great quality. We also learned after that the salmon comes from the same suppliers as the Queen of England’s. Well, a royal feast is on its way.
Meat lovers are not left out with cold cuts (ham, Bayonne ham and chorizo) and a quiche Lorraine to die for. As for vegetables, we love the raw vegetables, the fruits as well the hummus and the super creamy eggplant caviar.
We also discover a nice selection of cheeses including an excellent raw milk camembert and a very floral comté cheese we enjoy with some bread and jams for savory-sweet lovers. Gluten intolerants will be delighted to know that there’s also a selection of gluten-free products including a muesli that we can sprinkle on a very tasty yogurt. Some dry fruits, a drizzle of honey and voilà!
And what about eggs? The brunch go-to also has its spot at Grand Powers. Here, you have it served on a plate and it’s good news since you can order them to your liking. Soft-boiled, scrambled or omelet, served with herbs, ham or cheese, it’s up to you.
In addition to this all-you-can-eat buffet worthy of its name, we can also choose between three signature dishes. We enjoy a poke-bowl prepared according to a recipe from the hotel owners based on quinoa, mango, bluefin tuna, avocado, the whole sprinkled with sesame and pomegranate, all in all, flavors are just perfect on sunny days.
As for toast lovers, they will go for some smorrebrod, a Danish specialty that is a slice of rye bread with guacamole, topped by nice slices of avocado and salmon and here again, some pomegranate to bring some peps.
You can also go for the dish of the day. The day we came, it was a super soft squid served on a mouthwatering eggplant caviar and served with cherry tomatoes. All you need to go to the seaside in one bite.
And for sweet-toothed foodies, the hotel has lots of treats that made us take a walk down a sweet memory lane. Marbled cake, macarons, strawberry tart by Gilles Marchal, as well as apple tart and rhubarb tart likely to dethrone grandma’s recipe, everyone will find their guilty pleasure.
To accompany all this, you can order some Mariage Frères tea, a nice cup of coffee, freshly squeezed juice (orange, grapefruit or lemon) as well as a glass of champagne. If you wish, you can also go for a cocktail (extra €17) or one of the desserts on the menu (extra €10): pancakes and maple syrup, homemade ice creams and French toast.
We leave more than happy. We must say this brunch ticks all the authenticity boxes and as a bonus, it has an excellent quality-price ratio (without forgetting quantity). No greedy aspect has been left out and this warm atmosphere made us feel like at home. All in all, a top table for Sunday brunchers!
