Le Choupinet, what a cute name for a restaurant! And with its giant teddy bears, its modern and green decor and its simple yet effective menu, it's a green flag for us.
This Le Choupinet is the latest brasserie open just 3 weeks ago by Benjamin Artis coming from Cantal who worked at Kong, L’Arc, Bagatelle and even Yeels. For this opening, he teamed up with Delmar Pereira met at Kong.
On Le Choupinet menu, classics of the French bistro cuisine (Burgundy snails, foie gras, deviled eggs, artichokes and vinaigrette, roasted chicken croque-monsieur, frog’s legs, lentil salad, chocolate mousse, lemon pie, rum baba…) rub shoulder with the chef Tchekad’s creations (large salads, pastis-flambéed king prawns, tuna tartare…).
As a starter, we go for the plate of Bellota Bellota ham to share and an avocado toast with runny egg yolk. We even order an exquisite signature cocktail as an aperitif, based on spicy Captain Morgan rum. Le Choupinet serves about a dozen Signature cocktails for 14 euros, in addition to the 12-euro classic cocktails.
The, we go for a classic and a Signature dish. For the classic main course, we try the Croque-Monsieur, or Le Choupinet's best-seller, in a very soft version, the bread not being toasted, and the cheese is melted with a salamander broiler. It's served with homemade French fries and the chef's elevated mayonnaise with shallot and parsley.
The pastis-flambeed king prawns, a chef's signature dish, are very tasty, so is the homemade potato mash we chose to enjoy them - instead of the white rice. At the end of the day, pastis isn't too much and bring a nice and tasty aniseed-flavor to the crustaceans, and it's very original.
Moving on to dessert, another classic but a very effective one: French toast with maple syrup. Unless you go for the coffee and gourmet desserts?
Le Choupinet menu is said to change every quarter. The one we tried is available until early September. Classics like the Crique are available all year round, so are the grilled dishes.
The rotisserie where chickens spin can be seen from the restaurant. The dinning room smells very nice and it whets the appetite. As for pasta, you should know that at Le Choupinet, they are gluten-free.
Ideally set on boulevard Saint-Michel, just across the Jardin du Luxembourg, Le Choupinet welcomes tourists and Parisians. We definitely fell in love with the teddy bears that are fun and sweet, perfectly matching the place decor.
Inside, Le Choupinet decoration is very contemporary with green hues and lots of (artificial) plants bringing some greenery to the place.
Big asset of Le Choupinet in the summer, it enjoys a very large terrace where you can sit and enjoy some signature cocktails before dinner while nibbling on appetizers or have a crepe in the afternoon for instance, while enjoying the sun. And if it's too hot, watermisters on the terrace will cool you off.
