We all know that, Paris 17th arrondissement is filled with nice tables foodies talk about. Among these mouthwatering spots, L’Escient has a wonderful place. This family restaurant treats us to bistronomic food with an Asian twist.
On the third Thursday of the month, many foodies go there to enjoy the barbecue night. And when we say it’s crowded it means you really should book a table as soon as possible.
But what are those barbecue parties and why are they so successful? For these dinners, you can choose a special menu including a meat or fish (to choose) marinated and seared in a Green egg (or Kamado barbecue). It’s a ceramic barbecue very coveted by cooks that has the advantage of not smelling.
This special menu is an excellent quality-price ratio: €39 per guest. It includes a very sophisticated appetizer, a starter, a main course and a dessert. Everything changes from one night to the other but remains a wonderful culinary experience. The day we came, we started the tasting with some kefir yogurt with chickpea, vegetables, mint and cilantro with crispy peanut praline. A very fresh appetizer whetting the appetite.
As a starter, we had some nice, fleshy and juicy king shrimps served with some taramasalata to die for twisted with smoked bonito rice vinegar. And let’s cut to the chase, barbecue! Note that on each of these nights, L’Escient smokes its dishes with a different kind of wood. That night it was cherry tree wood. We were able to choose between salmon or leche de tigre beef.
The Peking salmon with teriyaki sauce made sweet-savory mix fans happy. semi-cooked, it keeps a nice flesh and we can taste the smoked side very well. It was served with a side of Green Egg-smoked vegetables and a splash of guacamole. And as everybody knows it, salmon + avocado = happiness.
As for the leche de tigre beef, it could make us roar with pleasure. You can choose the cooking but it’s highly recommended to have this meat very rare. And it’s what you want to have, trust me! Served with dark rice, the beef literally melts in the mouth.
Why leche de tigre?
Because rumor has it this meat is so good it would make a tiger weep.
Now, let’s move on to dessert. Two choices are available including L’Escient signature creation: the écume chocolat. This very light foam is served with passion caramel cream, lychee and vanilla ice cream, a very tasty combo. And we can beat you’ll leave nothing in your plate!
The second choice is mango compote flavored with lemongrass, yogurt ice cream and crispy gingerbread: subtle pairings that make fruit lovers fall in love with it!
All in all, this menu is very balanced: plates are imaginative and proportioned so that we can hold from the appetizer to the dessert without having to struggle to finish our plate. We leave satisfied and happy to have enjoyed all these wonderful culinary creations.
