An oasis in Châtelet. This is the most accurate description we could do of Novotel Paris Les Halles. If we love it because of the atmosphere in his Jardin Privé, a quiet terrace, far from the Parisian hustle and bustle, this summer 2002, Novotel offers another terrace with another atmosphere, more urban. See for yourself:
All day long, from noon to 10 p.m. the chef proposes tasty tapas to share: red mullet fritters, eggplant caviar, curry roasted cauliflower, hazelnut oil hummus, taramasalata, Kalamata olive tapenade, and Stracciatella de buffalo served generously for €8 (€15 for two, and €23 for three).
You only have to share 4-5 tapas to have a very hearty meal. We fell in love with the curry butter marinated cauliflower, as creamy and flavorful as it be, and for the Kalamata olive tapenade (the best olives in the world, cared with love). The mullet taramasalata is a beautiful discovery as well, with spices to shake up the taste buds. Honorable mention to the small homemade pita breads, wonderfully puffed and super light.
To pair tapas, the barman chef has a very beautiful wine list and makes some delicious cocktails. We went for some rozana (cranberry juice, apple juice, yellow lemon juice, Perrier), alcohol-free, perfect on hot summer days.
Children and foodies will be delighted with the Black Angus burger and the croque-monsieur, available one the menu on a daily basis, but only from noon to 2:30 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Especially that after such a feast, it is time for dessert. On the menu, then, iced desserts: Melba Strawberry, Chocolat Liégeois, and Café Liégeois in a revisited fashion, likely to make greedy foodies drool. Think a bit: pieces of brownies, coulis, and cream, in a big bowl in addition to ice cream.
On evenings, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. a happy hour is provided on the terrace. The barman’s cocktail costs €6, draught beers €3 and glasses of wine €4.
PS: if you happen to be by Châtelet, Novotel has its ice cream stand right next to the metro station exit. It provides Glaces des Alpes ice creams, delightful ice creams made in France, including the cotton candy ice cream based on coconut and candy sugar that (big) children will love (here, we have some passion fruit-blackcurrant ice cream). You can also have a drink in a more urban atmosphere, in the heart of Châtelet.
