The Motte-Picquet area gets livelier with the opening – for sunny days – a brand-new restaurant changing from the usual huge and traditional brasseries in the area. Called Abstinence, this new place with a sophisticated décor invites us to meet with friends again and enjoy good food after months of… abstinence!
Behind the stoves, you may have heard of the chef: Lucas Felzine. He worked at Ze Kitchen Galerie alongside William Ledeuil who became chef at Uma restaurant in Paris.
Moving on to the menu, Abstinence is all about making things original with multiple plates to share, small or hearty. Seated under the plant-filled glass ceiling, or on the sunny terrace, go for it and discover chef Lucas Felzine’s cuisine!
Starting with the exquisite white asparagus from Landes, jasmine and candied egg yolk (€14), this artichoke cream skillfully seasoned with summer truffled and fried baby artichokes (€13), or this deviled egg topped with a spoonful of caviar (€28). It will whet your appetite the most beautiful way and things to come seem delightful already.
Next up, snow pea and gorgonzola gnocchi (€12), very delighting, mini gourmet burgers – very original since stuffed with veal kidneys (€22) – served with a bit of horseradish to twist it up and spinach sprouts for a bit of freshness, before wrapping up on the grilled squid, zucchini cream and cucumber (€26).
We agree with you, prices are pretty high but it is because of the area, but if you want to trust the chef blindly, note a menu of the day for €35 is available and changes with deliveries and chef Felzine’s mood!
For sweet-toothed foodies, do not miss the banana and chocolate churros (€9) reminding us many summer funfair memories, nor the original ice creams and sorbets churned on site.
In the evening, the atmosphere changes since Abstinence turns into a wine bar and serves about fifty nice bottles of nature, organic and biodynamic wines, as well as signature cocktails.
A lovely location to discover this summer.
