Italian gastronomy fans, here is a place likely to delight your taste buds! Head to Restaurant Passerini in Paris 12th arrondissement, serving food “without nostalgia but deep Italian heredity”, still in what Italy does best. A restaurant which reputation ranked 9th on the 50 Top Italy guide, listing the best Italian restaurants in the world.
“It’s in France I learnt my trade the most, but I feel I have a great responsibility to represent Italian cuisine in Paris”, chef Giovanni Passerini says. Created after two years of reflection, the place serves a family ambiance like the one found in south of France and Italy, of course. The very core of the menu focuses on regional cuisine based on mostly French ingredients but worked the “Italian” way, covering hors-d’oeuvres to desserts.
Modern starters such as the veal kidneys, the spring vegetable stir, or the sour fond blanc, primi piatti based on dried pasta and stuffed pasta, or even fresh pasta, and generous desserts such as the rum baba, the ice cream scoops, or the traditional pastries… It has it all to delight foodies and gourmets! Note dishes are served by the plate (fish, meat, offal…), or by the whole piece to share (meat cooked on the bone, prime ribs of beef, farm poultry, whole baked fishes…), depending on the day’s delivery.
A table we put to the test. We went for the starter, main course, and dessert set menu for 35 euros, and it did not disappoint! The starters were a smoked beetroot tartare, Piedmont hazelnuts and dried ricotta, as well as canederli (small bread balls), beef batutta, mushrooms and buckwheat with tarragon consommé. Two starters that were very delicate and perfectly balanced.
moving on to pasta, we loved the tagliatelle with stewed duck, olivers and brocoli fiolare. So good! But our heart stopped with the ravioli del Pastificio with parsnip, caprizola and cumine with sage butter and parmesan... To die for! Probably the best ravioli we ever have had in Paris. As for dessert, let us finish with a slice of almond and apple tart with ricotta ice cream. A delicious mix of the sweetness of the pie and the saltiness of ricotta.
And on the terrace, no booking, only tasty dishes like the Raviolis du Pastificio, or an ice cream scoop for dessert… More than one person will be drooling, without speaking of the unobstructed views on the Coulée Verte with the Marché d’Aligre as the backdrop. In other words, a wonderful venue you must discover! Shall we book a table, friends?
