No surprise at Sürpriz: here kabob is made by the book, Berlin style. Created between Paris and Berlin, and settled in Oberkampf for three years, Sürpriz has been providing döner fans with Kadir Nurman’s authentic recipe topped with fresh vegetables and homemade ingredients. Now also available in Strasbourg-Saint-Denis, the two places are always crowded. And the true ones know and are not wrong.
Running both places, two Germans who left their native Berlin to settle in Paris, bringing in their suitcase their will to make Parisians discover the genuine Berlin kabob. The Sürpriz recipe was developed in partnership with genuine kebab-makers, especially Mehmet, the Berlin-based butcher supplying the famous Mustapha Gemüse Kebab.
Inside the handmade breads and flatbreads – baked then toasted with homemade butter with herbs – 100% chicken meat, thoroughly grilled and caramelized on a spit, Greek feta, and ultra-fresh vegetables – bell peppers, eggplants, carrots, zucchinis, Roman salad, and arugula, red and white cabbage, tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, mint and parsley replacing the traditional trio salad-tomato-onion.
As for sauces, forget about the Algerian or Samourai, here, only three and incredible sauces available in the German kabob stores: the Kräuter (herbs) sauce, the Knoblauch (garlic) sauce, and the Scharf (spicy) sauce, all homemade. To pair with a bottle of Club Mate, Fritz Kola or Apferschorle to feel like in Berlin!
