You might think that in the middle of summer when all the Parisians take off on vacation, the city is devoid of cultural events...but think again! Between the music festivals, dance shows, street and sports events for the whole family, Paris is overflowing with fun things to do, so much so that the Parisians that stay in the region and the tourists that visit don’t know where to begin.
Take Paris Plage for example. From July 20th to August 30th, 2016 this 15th annual beach event, which has become one of the main events of the season, will be back again along the banks of the Seine river and the Bassin de la Villette (artificial lake). Paris Plage is a place for sports, relaxation areas and even concerts!
Not far away, the été du canal event puts on its on show at the Canal de l’Ourcq. From July 2nd to August 21st, there will be many different events and activities for kids like dancing, shows and water games.
Staying on the northeastern side of Paris, there is the Foot Foraine at La Villette park from for the UEFA Euro tournament from June 5th to July 10th, 2016. Installations, events, game spaces and workshops for kids are all part of the program! A final note on the La Villette area: LaPlage is at Glaz’art until October 3rd, with fine sand beaches and deck chairs!
As for concerts, the Festival Fnac Live is back again for another great year, with four nights of free concerts in the Hôtel de Ville plaza!
The Black Summer Festival is also sure to be a hit at the Cabaret Sauvage from July 5th to 31st, featuring funk, soul, reggae, afrobeat, jazz, hip-hop, blues, and salsa music!
If classical music is what you’re into, then don’t miss the Classique au Vert from August 6th to September 18th in the Parc Floral de Paris.
Last but certainly not least is the Rock en Seine music festival, in the Domaine National du Parc de Saint Cloud from August 26th-28th. The lineup will include Sigur Ros, Iggy Pop, Massive Attack, Foals and The Last Shadow Puppets, among others!

The Paris Quartier d’été arts festival is also back from July 14th to August 7th, 2016, with dance, music, theater, circus acts and other cultural experiences that are all free!
One of the many upsides of summer is that you can do almost anything outside, including movies! Paris has many outdoor film events, and what’s even better is they’re free! Under the stars in Saint-Cloud, at La Villette, or at Claire de Lune in the park, we just can’t get enough!
Summer is also a good time to see or rediscover the region’s historic and cultural sites, as well as its parks and gardens. You can do it all at these outdoor contemporary art exhibitions.
If for you summer means total relaxation, then think about chilling out on a cafe terrace or having a picnic lunch with a good book, or even having a culinary experience in a different kind of restaurant. Or maybe you’re more of the adventurous type, and summer is the time to exert yourself seek out ropescourses, rock climbing or even pony rides.
