Chess, an elite-only game? Not at Blitz Society, the only chess bar in Paris (and France!), aiming at making the discipline accessible and playful for all generations. In a lounge and intimate atmosphere, in the heart of the Saint-Germain area, learn how to play, perfect yourselves or face off opponents whilst enjoying dishes to share with friends and listening to jazz music.
The place is inspired by the New York parks where chess tables were set, open to homeless people and passersby. Everyone could play a game together and take the time to think without caring about the social background of their opponents. At Blitz, the principle is the same, chess gathers all players, strangers and friends, and you can even meet the best players in the city!
Choose one of the 27 tables with green and white tops and rack your brains! But you need some juice to keep up, so, you better order a board of cold cuts or cheese to share, some quality wine or a beer, and off you go and play another game! All this to well-fitting jazz music, because of the laid-back atmosphere making us travel to the 1930’s. Pictures of famous players from the past hung on the walls end up convincing us to put the timer on. Every week, the bar sets up entertainments and tournaments to keep regulars busy!
Blitz provides chess however old you are! Recently, the bar opened its Blitz Academy for children age 6 to 13, to teach them the very basics or improve their game, as well as perfect their focusing abilities and play with their families! The goal of this academy is to be able to play chess in 5 lessons thanks to an introductory workshop or perfecting classes supervised by a professional chess master.
