It’s a whole part of the American story showing here…  Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, a Quentin Tarantino film out in France on August 14, 2019. A movie gathering the crème de la crème of Hollywood like Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, Margot Robbie, Al Pacino, Dakota Fanning, Lena Dunham and even Kurt Russel

And a movie taking us to the heart of one of the main events of the story of cinema, when Hollywood movies started to change, going from the “Old Hollywood” managed by the Hays Code to the “New Hollywood” putting moviemakers in the middle of everything and liberating them in every senses of the word. A movie with a strong context, with hippie manifestation in the background, but mostly including the murder of Sharon Tate by Charles Manson, one of the highlights of the movie.

Plot:

In 1969, TV star Rick Dalton and stuntman Cliff Booth, his long-term stunt double, pursue their careers in an industry they no longer acknowledge and try to give their careers a booth. Moreover, in the middle of summer, on August 9, Hollywood will be marked for ever by a barbaric act: moviemaker Roman Polanksi’s wife and Rick Dalton’s neighbor Sharon Tate his killed by one of Charles Manson’s followers.

Review:

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood offers us Quentin Tarantino in all his glory with a perfect technic, deep and rich dialogs taking over the whole movie, a 3-star cast and an unconditional love for cinema showing on every shoot, every sequence of the movie. Tarantino plays with the film roll like a genius, offering what the best of the 7th art.

Yet, we may regret some superficial and slower parts, but they are still here and supported by the great Leonardo DiCaprio and an always fascinating Brad Pitt as a colorful and spicy character. And scenes likely to become cult… A movie you really don’t want to miss!
