Scarlett Johansson's latest Marvel movie, "Black Widow", due out in 2021, airs on TV this Monday, November 27.

Natasha Romanoff is back on the small screen! Cate Shortland 's feature film Black Widow stars Scarlett Johansson as the returning superheroine. A Marvel film that follows on from Captain America: Civil War in the MCU timeline, it plunges us into the heart of a solo adventure by the spy and Avengers member, in search of answers about her past. The film airs this Monday, November 27, at 9:25pm on TMC.

In addition to Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, the cast includes David Harbour (Stranger Things, Hellboy...), Florence Pugh(Midsommar, Les Filles du Docteur March...), O.T. Fagbenle (Doctor Who, The Handmaid's Tale...), Rachel Weisz(The Day I Return, The Favourite...), Ray Winstone (Gentlemen Burglars, Cats...), and William Hurt (The Last Full Measure, Avengers: Endgame...).

Synopsis

The film follows the adventures of Natasha Romanoff, alias Black Widow, a superhero in her own right within the Avengers, as she sets out to find answers about her past in Russia, just after the events of Captain America: Civil War. A film in which the spy meets several iconic characters from the Marvel universe, such as Red Guardian (played by David Harbour) and Taskmaster, the film's antagonist. A film in which Natasha Romanoff will also meet other Black Widows... but also her sister!

Review

Black Widow is a feature-length superheroic film that's a far cry from the usual Marvel Studios fare, coming closer here in terms of narrative to the Falcon and the Winter Soldier series, with a simple, effective espionage plot that doesn't turn the genre on its head. Scarlett Johansson's acting is impeccable as ever, with a character that's a bit like the one we discovered in Avengers, mischievous and manipulative. Quite enjoyable.

We also appreciate the film's dense, sustained pace, calibrated to ensure there's never a shortage of action. The film's cinematography is interesting and a little cold, but echoes the not-quite-finished "Cold War" atmosphere of the "Red Room", corresponding to the general mood of the film. A refreshing film that should please fans of the early days... And if not, we'll of course stay until the end credits, as the film features two post-generic scenes, one of which links up with phase 4 of the MCU, which began with the series available on Disney+.
