Opening in France on May 11, 2022, The Northman is the talk of the town. We must say The Northman is the latest feature length film by talented American director Robert Eggers, to whom we already owe “The Witch” in 2015 and “The Lighthouse” in 2019.
And for this new movie taking place in 10th century Iceland, as revenges between Vikings raged, Robert Eggers called in Icelandic poet and screenwriter Sjón Sigurðsson who wrote the magnificent novel “Moonstone – The Boy Who Never Was” among others, and who collaborated with Icelandic singer Björk on multiple occasions.
This is no coincidence if Björk is part of the “The Northman” cast. Although the artist got herself talked a lot about because of her memorable stage performances, Björk can also be very moving on movies, especially like in Lars Von Trier’s unmissable “Dancer in the Dark”, a movie she was given the award for best actress at the Cannes Film Festival. Nietzchka Keene’s movie “The Juniper Tree” was released again, marked by Björk’s first movie role.
In the new Robert Eggers movie, Björk plays a witch. By her side stand Nicole Kidman, Willem Dafoe, Alexander Skarsgård, Ethan Hawke as well as Anya Taylor-Joy (“The Witch”) and Claes Bang (“The Square”).
