Fantastic Beasts movie is getting closer… Warner Bros. Pictures has issued the first teaser of the third installment of the saga, before the first trailer on Monday December 13. Called “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore” it is to be released on April 13, 2022.
This movie could also be the last, according to media and pop culture influencer Daniel Richtman – famous for rumors that happen to turn out true. And for good reason: Warner Bros. Pictures is said to have decided to close the saga with the third installment of Newt Scamander’s adventures instead of the five movies originally planned. How come? There are many grounds behind this decision: the disappointing rentability at the box-office, the polemic around J.K. Rowling’s transphobic statements, the health crisis… As many reasons that got the better of the franchise.
It is also without mentioning another polemic that shook the cinema world over the past few months: Johnny Depp’s dismissal! The actor – who played Albus Dumbledore’s enemy, the wizard Gellert Grindelwald in the first two installments of the saga – announced this past November in a release published on Instagram he was stepping off his role, as required by the Warner because of the latest events in the libel suit against The Sun that he just lost.
“I wish to let you know that I have been asked to resign by Warner Bros. from my role as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts and I have respected and agreed to that request”, the actor explains, after saying he would “like to thank everybody who has gifted [him] with their support and loyalty”. He then goes on about the circumstances of his resignation, the suit he lost against The Sun: “The surreal judgment of the court in the U.K. will not change my fight to tell the truth and I confirm that I plan to appeal”. He concludes: “My resolve remains strong and I intend to prove that the allegations against me are false. My life and career will not be defined by this moment in time”.

Note the actor has been replaced by Mads Mikkelsen as the malefic wizard. The jury will be out on his replacement’s performance… But no doubt he will be magic!
