Less than a year after “Honest Thief”, Liam Neeson is already back on the big screen. His upcoming movie “The Ice Road” opens on August 4, 2021 in France.
Without any surprise, with Neeson, “The Ice Road” is both an action and thriller movie. Although Neeson already drove a snowplow in “Cold Pursuit” – out in 2019 – in “The Ice Road”, he will have to drive a truck on frozen roads.
“The Ice Road” is directed by Jonathan Hensleigh (“Irish Gangster”, “Welcome to the Jungle”, “The Punisher”) who did not release any movie in 10 years. Neeson shares the screen with Holt McCallany (currently in “Wrath of Man”), Laurence Fishburne (“Death to 2020”, the “John Wick” saga…), Amber Midthunder (“Roswell – New Mexico”…), as well as Paul Essiembre, Gabriel Daniels and BJ Verot (both starring in “Nobody”).
Goldenrod (Fishburne) owns a cartage company. He hires driver Mike (Neeson) so he can come with him accomplish a dangerous mission. They are to help minors trapped in far northern Canada. They cannot do otherwise but drive on a frozen ocean to find them.
With "The Ice Road", Jonathan Hensleigh first and foremost delivers a spectacular movie, with a lot of tension and suspense, filled with actions.
"The Ice Road" makes us think of documentary show "Ice Road Truckers". The movie does with real elements (the description of the ice roads, the techniques used by truckers...) and other fictional elements far more unlikely.
The movie director creates a contrast between the very white pictures of the iced roads, and the very dark images of the mine that collapsed. He also took care to write funny and sharp lines, especially for Liam Neeson who only lives for trucks and compares himself to those.
And like in any good movie starring Neeson, troubles never end: when there is more, there are again! We really need to hit the road of the movie to get to know the very last work of this story keeping us on tenterhooks
