Synopsis of Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania

After the events of their confrontation with Thanos, Hank Pym, Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne have become world-famous for their acts of bravery. They continue their research into the Quantum Realm and its mysteries, while Scott takes advantage of his fame as an Avenger to become a star, while working with his daughter Cassie. But an accident in Hank Pym's laboratory, caused by Cassie, sends them all into the quantum realm. They'll also have to face one of the most dangerous individuals in the multiverse, Kang the Conqueror, as well asMODOK.

Our verdict

Ant-Man makes a minor return to the MCU, but remains an interesting film, solid and well-constructed, visually quite beautiful, but suffering from numerous flaws. Starting with less well-constructed characters and less impactful heroes. Unfortunately, the film unfolds without much flavor, with rather bland characters, with the exception of Kang the Conqueror and Janet Van Dyne, played by Jonathan Majors and Michelle Pfiffer, who literally burst onto the screen. Special mention must also go to Cassie Lang, played by Kathryn Newton, who brings something interesting to the character, and promises a fine development in future films. On the other hand, MODOK unfortunately fails to convince, unlike the character of Skylar, played by Bill Murray, who brings a little freshness to the film.

It's a film with no real stakes, too, and its storylines are a little too cookie-cutter, leaving no major plot surprises, except perhaps for the surprising ending, although the last five to ten minutes of the film are dispensable. The post-generic scenes, on the other hand, are worth sticking around to see through to the end.

A dispensable ending, to be sure, but one that offers a brief reflection on actions and their consequences. A bit of depth, unfortunately, humorously swept aside by Scott Lang, making the film fall flat on its face.

Visually, the film is quite beautiful, even promising some particularly thoughtful scenes on how to show the variations and simultaneities of time (cf. Schrödinger's Cat experiment, you'll understand when you see it...), and invites viewers not to miss a single crumb.

In short, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania will undoubtedly appeal to MCU fans, but it's still worth a look for its graphic quality and familiar humor. All you have to do is make up your own mind!
