As the Musée des Arts Décoratifs presents an exhibition about Prisunic, the Avenue des Champs-Elysées has made the inexpensive design brand rise again.

For many Parisians, it is as if they were going back in time. The world’s most beautiful avenue features a brand, that disappeared in 2003, for a few days. Prisunic – for those who have heard about it – used to be a popular big chain that had “Le beau au prix du laid” [Beautiful for ugly prices] as a motto. It sets the tone.

Since December 2, 2021, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs has been dedicating a retrospective exhibition about the brand launched by the Printemps stores in 1931 – taken over in 1997 by Monoprix. The occasion for the latter to pay tribute to a cult brand that marked Parisians – as much as the Tati brand did, for instance.
