Have you always dreamt of crossing Paris in a car, driving at full speed like in some movies? Insolites Board is about to make your dream come true, or almost, with its Hoverkart tours in Paris by the Seine.
You don’t know what an Hoverkart is? It’s an Hoverboard to which a structure you can seat on has been added so that it can become an electric karting car… and it hits its mark. On this racing car, you don’t go unnoticed, this is the least we can say.
First of all, Ibrahima Niakate was sending electronic cigarettes since 2013 before being interested in new technologies and new mobility methods. Very quickly, in 2014, he offered to rent Hoverboard and guided tours in Paris.
For two years now, he has added Hoverkart to his activity range (Hoverboard tours, VR activities, drone activities, 3D pen…) for companies and private people. In September, he will offer tours with electronic scooters.
The meeting point is in front of his Insolites Collection store set in rue des Archives. His staff prepares the gear. Seats put on the Hoverboards are custom-made with improvements coming straight from Ibrahima’s mind and are exclusive in France.
Let’s put on a yellow jacket and a helmet (provided) and let’s walk to the Place de l’Eglise Saint-Gervais and making our machine roll to get used to it. It will be quick because it’s very simple: no steering wheel but handles on the sides we push to go forward, pull to go backward and position to go one way or another. Nothing very complicated. We quickly get into the groove.
When everybody’s ready, we seat on the Hoverkart and we drive off. Following one another, we go to the Seine river banks.
Like for a car, be careful when you start and when you drive in a hill, at the beginning, we’ve had some difficulties.
By driving this car, we feel like Toad or Yoshi in Mario Kart. We only need a horn and the video game music to truly feel like in the game.
We go along the Seine, among passersby enjoying Paris Plages. If in Mario Kart you have to avoid the banana peels, in real life, you need to avoid pedestrians and zigzagging between them is actually quite nice and very easy.
We start with the Quai Henri IV and finish with the tunnel going up the upper quay. With such a weather, driving in the shadows feels very lovely. But when we go the other way, the tunnel goes down and this is the perfect time for our supervisors to decide to hold a race. It’s really great and we must say our years of practicing Mario Kart (on Super Nintendo, GameCube, Wii…) certainly helped us win the race.
If some people are still complaining about the pedestrianization of the banks of the Seine decided by Anne Hidalgo, for Hoverkart it’s perfect.
This stroll along the Seine with views on Parisian monuments on the left bank, theConciergerie, the Musée d’Orsay in the distance and so on, is very pleasing, like when we drove near the water misters.
And it’s really not risky: Hoverkarts go at 12km/h maximum, it’s not very fast since some cyclists and skaters overtook us. But, being at ground level hits its mark. We fell all the flaws of the road, but the boards can drive everywhere, on a wet floor, in holes… with no difficulties at all.
Children from 9 years old can come safely.
The tour lasts one hour and time flies, but you can’t do more: this use eats the Hoverboard batteries much quicker.
We’re barely off the Hoverkart that we want to go for another ride so much it’s cool. So, if you’re looking for a fun and unique outing in Paris with friends or family, look no more, try the Hoverkart! Don’t hesitate to pay a visit to Insolites Collection to book a tour, the team is very lovely.
