The French Open 2021 organizers have decided to postpone the tennis tournament by one week to get more chance to receive the public and see if the health restrictions instated because of the Covid-19 epidemic will be eased off. The French Internationals 2021 are planned from May 30 to June 13, 2021, then.

The French Open will take palce from May 30 to June 13, 2021. First postponed on March 17 over the coronavirus epidemic, the French Internationals have been postponed twice. Is the 2021 edition about to know the same fate?

This Thursday April 8, 2021, we know more about the tournament schedule. Organizers announce Roland Garros 2021 is postponed by one week to be eventually played from May 30 to June 13, 2021, instead of starting from May 23. The main reason is to get all chances on the organizers' side to make the most of the event if the health restrictions instated because of the health situation would be eased off, and therefore, they will be able to receive a greater number of spectators during the two-week event. Furthermore, dates are getting close to Wimbledon - starting June 28, naming two weeks after the French Open 2021 ends.

Invited this Saturday on France Info, French Sports Minister Roxana Maracineanu has explained she was discussing about likely possibilities with the tennis tournament organizers. The French Open is scheduled so far from May 23 to June 6. "We are in talks with them to see if we need to change the date to make it match with likely resuming of sports and major events", she said on air.

"We are studying several options for Roland Garros 2021. There is a total range... or even total for I do not dare to think a 100% gauge. But the gauge can go from crowdless-games to a gauge that will not be 100%. All options are ready. We are meeting with players on a regular basis, and we are waiting to see how things go", FFT new President Gilles Moretton told AFP.

For the record, The Australian Open 2021 ended behind closed doors after a cluster has been detected in a hotel housing players. As for Monte-Carlo Masters 1000 - scheduled from April 10 to 18, 2021 - the tournament will be played behind closed doors due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
