Ready for another Run For Planet? This entirely eco-designed, solidarity-based race returns on Sunday, June 9, 2024 near Paris, at theÎle de Loisirs de Draveil. The aim: to raise French awareness of ecological, ethical and social issues, by collecting donations for associations working daily to protect our beautiful Earth.
Run For Planet offers two distances: an untimed 5km and a timed 10km, as well as a special race for the little ones! The event is accessible to as many people as possible, because the future of the planet concerns us all. Profits from the race are then donated to the association of the participant's choice, from among the Ligue de Protection des Oiseaux, L214 Éthique & animaux, Sea Shepherd, Médecins du monde and Planète Urgence.
But what exactly is an "eco-designed" race? Unlike other major sporting events, which traditionally offer a whole range of derivative products, Run For Planet wants to go as far as possible. At the end of the race, no "finisher" jersey,"often worn only once and produced in Asia". The same goes for plastic bottles, replaced by 100% French-made eco-cups, which are then reused at all their events. Bib numbers are also collected at the end of the race, to be recycled and reused.
Forget heavy metal medals! Each participant receives a medal made from French beechwood, sourced from sustainably managed forests. Along the race route, refreshment points will offer only seasonal produce, with any surplus redistributed to local associations.
An eco-responsible village will be set up on the leisure island of Port aux Cerises, where the race starts. The organizers' idea was to set up a village hosting events focusing on ecology and civic involvement. On the program: a collective warm-up to get into the swing of things, and fun, participatory and creative workshops.
