Run For Planet 2021, the race for the environment: dates, program, and registrations

How about running for the planet? For the first edition in France, Run For Planet comes from June 6 to 20 to Paris and other big cities in France. An eco-friendly-designed race looking to raise awareness about environmental, ethical, and social issues. The principle is simple: run one of the two lengths possible physically or digitally. Profits will be then donated to four environmental associations.

Ready for the first edition of Run For Planet? The first eco-designed and united race is coming to June 2021 in Paris. The goal: raising awareness about ethical, social and environmental issues by collecting donations for associations working to protect our beautiful Earth on a daily basis.

For their first big race, Run for Planet proposes two lengths: an untimed 5km race, and a timed 10km race. In Paris, the physical race is to take place on Sunday June 20, 2021. The digital version of the race takes place from June 6 to 20. Furthermore, two other Run For Planet races are planned on June 6 in Lyon and Bordeaux. Promoters confirm the event is open to as many people as possible as the “future of the planet applies to us all”!

Then, profits of the race will be donated to the association of your choice among the Ligue de Protection des Oiseaux, L214 Ethique & Animaux, Sea Shepherd, and Médecins du Monde. Four associations placing environmental preoccupations at the very core of their actions.

But what is an eco-designed race? Unlike other major sporting events traditionally giving a whole range of byproducts and other “goodies”, Run For Planet wishes to go as further as possible in terms of eco-conception.

At the end of the race, no “finisher” tee-shirt: “often worn once and made in Asia, its environmental impact is a disaster and incompatible with the values” of the race – the promoters explain. Same thing for plastic bottles replaced by eco-cups 100% made in France, that will be then reused for all their other events. Bibs are all collected at the end of the race to be recycled and reused the same way.

Forget about heavy medals made of metal! Each runner will be given a medal made of beech tree from France, coming from forests managed in a sustainable way. All along the race, provisions stations will only give away seasonal produces, and excesses will be then given away to local associations.

In Paris, an eco-sustainable village will be set up on the île de loisirs du Port aux Cerises, the place the race will start from. The promoters’ idea is to show a village housing entertainments focusing on ecology and citizen commitment. On site, you can find – for instance – associations such as Ton t-shirt me fait rêver or even Grolles & Co, collecting race tee-shirts and running shoes runners do not want anymore, to make people in need happy. Eco-friendly composting toilets will also be available on site.

On the menu of the Run For Planet village entertainments: collective warm-up with Keep Cool, followed by a batucada with La Capsula to make you want to dance all the race long! On site, a “mural for the climate” will enable to raise awareness about issues related to global warming. A “photobooth” space will be ran by Wild Stories to immortalize the day. Last but not least, a collective stretching session – still provided by Keep Cool – to recover after a long distance-run.
