After housing the Fiac, Taste of Paris or the Saut Hermès, the Temporary Grand Palais is to be home to a combat sport. As a matter of fact, on Tuesday May 31, 2022, the building set on the Champ de Mars becomes the theater of World Kickboxing Championship. The event during which the current champion (in the under 81-kg category), French Cyril Benzaquen, defends his title again.
At 32, Cyril Benzaquen has won lots of titles: Thai Boxing and Kickboxing French Champion, Thai Boxing World Champion, Kickboxing European and World Champion (K-1). So, on May 31, at the Temporary Grand Palais, Cyril Benzaquen will compete in a world championship for the 6th time. His opponent? Romanian Florin Lambagiu.
And the Temporary Grand Palais was not a venue left to chance: 80 years ago, on May 17, 1942, Cyril Benzaquen’s idol Marcel Cerdan fought the European’s boxing championship at the Grand Palais. This fighting night is also a tribute to Marcel Cerdan.
Also on the menu, 6 fights for the French Muay Thai, pancrace and kickboxing championship.
If you like combat sports, note the UFC is coming to France this fall too…
