For Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, the Roland Garros arena is getting ready to be a major site. The iconic stadium is to house some Olympics and Paralympics sports: tennis, wheelchaired tennis, boxing, and seated-volley. Here is what to expect!

Paris is getting ready for the Summer 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. All over the city, several locations are to house the highly expected challenges and works have started on the occasion. In the 16th arrondissement, the iconic Roland Garros stadium is no exception. This major venue for tennis fans is switching to 2024 Olympics time to become one of the unmissable sites of this international competition.

But first of all, what are the games held at Roland-Garros? There will be four of them. As part of the Olympics, there is tennis of course, as well as boxing. As for the Paralympics, it will involve wheelchaired tennis, as well as seated volley. We already know the tennis challenges will take place at the court Philippe-Chartrier, whilst the court Suzanne-Lenglen will be home to volley and boxing challenges.

As for renovations and improvements, what is to be expected, then? Well, the Roland-Garros stadium has been already extended since its inauguration, and now features 17 clay courts and covers 11 hectares. Among the latest arrangements made to date, there is the inclusion of the Simonne-Mathieu court and its 5,000 seats in the garden of the Auteuil greenhouse. The famous court Philippe-Chartrier with 15,000 seats now enjoys a retractable roof that can open or close within 15 minutes.

To house the boxing challenges, the court Suzanne-Lenglen will be fitted with a retractable roof too “above the existing grandstands”. This construction is to also be a tribute to the famous player after which the court was named with a structure that “will be like levitating above the court and grandstands, completed with a canvas designed as a nod to the folds designed by Jean Patou for the tennis great champion and stadium legend’s, Suzanne Lenglen, skirt”, the Roland-Garros stadium website reads.

We are looking forward to it!
