Christmas magic is taking over Paris in December 2019: streets are filled with Christmas lights, Christmas windows are out and (grown-up) children look for ice skating rinks! If the Grand Palais houses the biggest ice-skating rink in the world this winter, the most glamorous ice skating-rink in Paris goes to Plaza Athénée, the Luxury hotel on Avenue Montaigne.
For years, the Parisian palace turns its inner courtyard and sets up a genuine ice-skating rink made of ice, all winter long, and this year from November 24, 2019 to February 2, 2020. 3 days are required to make the water set into ice and make sure the 100sqm surface is perfect and the result looks great!
Plaza Athénée small ice-skating rink is very dreamy with its setting, its heated terrace, plaids and its gourmet cabin. Insta-worthy ice-skating rink, it’s only open for children for safety reasons! Yes, only 10 children can skate at the same time and two adults are here to keep an eye on them. Be rest assured, parents can still put on skates to accompany their little monsters on the ice.
If you thought this ice-skating rink wasn’t accessible, you’re wrong: you only have to take a delicious gourmet break at the gourmet cabin: waffle, Gugelhupf or chocolate brioche for €8, cappuccino for €10 and hot chocolate by Manufacture Ducasse for €12, the choice is wide and children will enjoy creations by Plaza Athénée pastry chef Alexandre Dufeu.
And if you don’t have children yet, go to the gourmet cabin because it’s the perfect temporary tearoom to enjoy a pleasant winter in Paris. Cuddle under the blanket, heated by high lamps and enjoy the silence to sip some mulled wine (€16 – please drink responsibly), and champagne, a luxury treat costing from €28 for a glass of Moët & Chandon Brut Impérial to €58 for a glass of Dom Pérignon Brut 2008.
This inner courtyard is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on school time and every day during Christmas break in Paris!
