Starting from Thursday April 30th, Health Minister Olivier Véran will present a COVID-19 forecast on a daily evening-basis! Number of new cases, beds available in hospitals, everything is assessed to plan deconfinement. Yes, but we will not have to wait until May 10th to know if we will be allowed out on May 11th, decision will be made on the evening on May 7th!

Thursday May 7th, 2020, this is the new key-date as of deconfinement. Yes, on that specific day, the Health Minister will present one final map summarizing the situation in each department amid the coronavirus epidemic, and the final decision determining deconfinement on May 11!

This map of France will be drawn after the study of the evolution of the COVID-19 epidemic in a week, depending on 3 criteria: the number of new cases within the population, the intensive care unit hospital capacity and the local test and detection of contact case system ready for deconfinement.

On LCI, David Pujadas posed a challenge for the decision on May 7th. As a matter of fact, on that day, confinement will be still implemented, and the map will not reflect the vision of France as people resume works. To this, the Health Minister has explained that the daily maps are useful to analysts who give forecasts depending on a special model. According to them, the end of confinement depends on the number of “new cases”: it requires that “every day, the number of new contamination cases be including between 1 and a few thousands of patients”.

On the first Covid-19 forecast, the entire Ile-de-France region was red, which was no surprise. This is a new condition to deconfinement!
