Today, constrained to travel only in their departments and within a 100-kilometer area around their houses, French will be able to travel all around metropolitan and overseas France freely starting from June 2, when the phase 2 of the containment exit plan begins.

We finally know more about the phase 2 of the containment exit plan set up by the government starting from June 2, 2020. If since May 11, French have been allowed out again to practice some activities, many places of life are still shut. Moreover, trips are currently still limited to within the home department, that is to say to within 100km around the home. The trip limitation will be lifted from June 2.

As a matter of fact, Prime Minister Edouard Philippe announced this afternoon that French people can freely travel wherever they want "throughout the phase 2, liberty will become the rule again and the ban will be an exception".

Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne said a few days ago that statements as for phase 2 expected within a week will give “more width to the mobility” of the French. Before saying: “We are working on a significative extension of the 100 kilometers”.

A measure that would be made with the agreement of the Upper Public Health Council (Haut Conseil de la Santé Publique) that seems for a reopening of restaurants, with “a one-meter distance” in compliance with a health protocol currently studied in order to help the economic recovery of the tourism activities in France.

Last but not least, as for the authorization to travel around for summer vacations, the State secretary says “by June 15, we’ll know more about the widening, the opening of the borders” but yet invite French “to travel in France to help the sector recover”.
