The government will ask the health emergency exit to be extended until late 2021, as it was expected to come to an end in September. This request is to be listed in a draft bill studied by the Parliament the coming weeks.

How long will the health emergency be? So far, it is expected to last until June 1, 2021, giving the government more power to stop the health crisis, and it has been extedned over and over again. Until late September 2021, and perhaps even to the end of the year.

Therefore, a bill to exit the health emergency is to be presented later to the Ministerial Council, before being voted again at the National Assembly. On paper, the draft bills allows the executive to keep exceptional jurisdiction from late September to December. If the health situation demands it, the government and the Prime Minister may still be able to pass decrees on the circulation of people or health pass.

For the record, the health emergency enabled the government to implement curfew from 6 p.m., as well as partial lockdowns. A major text for the executive as it allows them to instate never-before-seen and drastic measures to try to curb the spread of the Covid-19 epidemic. According to the same sources, the executive is yet working on the same legal provisions in order to put an end to lockdown and curfew, still on everywhere in France.
