This Thursday January 14, 2021 Jean Castex and his government announced new measures during a press brief. The Prime Minister and Health Minister were expected to address the reopening of bars and restaurants initially planned on January 20, as well as the extension of curfew pulled forward to 6 p.m. in France. The executive confirmed 6 p.m. curfew will be instated from Saturday January 16, 2021.

For several days already, the threat of a violent resurgence of the Covid-19 epidemic has been lingering over Europe, as a new British variant has been identified in clusters in France. The Prime Minister widely detailed the governmental policy in terms of fighting against the Covid-19 epidemic.

As an introduction, the PM intended to remind that "the situation - compared with other European countries - is more than accepatble". Even though the epidemic situation is still "preoccupying", Jean Castex says so far the epidemic is "overall stable" in France. To sum up the situation, he said the epidemic wave was "under control compared with other European countries, but fragile given the virus keeps on actively spreading" in France.
