As the vaccination campaign is expected to increase even more in France over the coming weeks, the ANSM – the National Medicines Agency – has unveiled the conclusions of their latest investigation on side effects noticed following Covid-19 vaccination. Keep reading to find out more.

To date, about 9 million Covid-19 vaccine doses have been injected in France. Out of these 9 million injections, 20,265 side effect cases have been reported since the vaccination campaign started, including 24% severe cases. This is what the ANSM – the National Medicines Agency – stated this April 2, 2021 following another investigation carried out on Covid-19 vaccine adverse effects. What are the side effects and what vaccines caused them?

According to the latest report from the pharmacovigilance about adverse effects issued by the ANSM, Pfizer vaccine is held responsible for the greatest number of adverse effects reported in people vaccinated with 12,249 cases recorded for over 7 million doses injected, namely 0.6%. In the very controversial AstraZeneca, 7,439 cases in 1.9 million injections, namely 0.38%. Last but not least, 577 cases have been reported for Moderna vaccine in 600,000 injections, namely 0.09%.

Still according to the ANSM, 0.138% are severe cases in Pfizer, 0.098% in AstraZeneca, and 0.0153% in Moderna. In their report, the National Medicines Agency details the list of the most common adverse effects including influenza-like syndromes, and in the most severe cases, thrombosis, shingles, high blood pressure, cardiac dysrhythmia, as well as diabetic complications.

The ANSM also gives the number of deaths that occurred following the injection of one of the vaccines: 34 deaths with AstraZeneca, 354 with Pfizer, and none with Moderna. But “current data are not enabling to conclude [these deaths] area related to vaccination”, the ANSM adds.
