President of the Scientific Committee shared prospects as for the next steps of the Covid-19 epidemic in France, specifically as of the lockdown exit calendar as planned by the government. The scientific considers it will be crucial to keep facemasks on “in very big cities” while warning against the risk of a 4th wave likely to start from September.

One really has to keep wearing facemasksincluding outside, at least until June 30”. This warning comes from President of the Scientific Committee Jean-François Delfraissy. Interviewed this Tuesday June 8, 2021 in the morning on RTL radio station, the professor considered “it will be very difficult to keep facemasks on past June 30”, last date of the lockdown exit calendar announced this past April by the government.

Especially as Pr. Delfraissy stated a “new surge” of the Covid-19 epidemic in France was likely to happen “in September or October. A 4th wave likely to be weaker than the previous ones because of the vaccination campaign always improving in France. Another reason to keep your mask up your nose still for a few days, although the head of the Scientific Committee stays realistic. “We need to be reasonable, people in the countryside, or at the beach, heading for a walk will think ‘hold on, experts, stop, we can wear facemasks where we need to’”, he thinks.

Furthermore, it is for these very reasons Delfraissy has been repeating a clear message over and over again: “We need to do it [wearing facemasks] specifically in very big cities. It will involve Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Nice, Bordeaux”, the scientist explains.

Covid: Pr. Delfraissy thinks the "4th wave will be much more moderate than the first three"
As France starts the last step of the lockdown exit process on June 30, Pr. Jean-François Delfraissy thinks "there will be a 4th wave" this fall "but more more moderate than the first 3". "Vaccines are working against the delta variant, if two injections have been given. Hence the message: you need to get vaccinated, and get both injections by Fall", the Head of the Scientific Committee insisted on this Wednesday morning on France Inter. [Read more]

Starting from June 9, closed places and gyms reopen to people. A lockdown exit coming with many risks, the professor considers. “A rather difficult moment is coming in a couple of days because so far, we were outside, and now, indoors are reopening. This is where everything will play out”, he says. “I’m not worried, if we stick to health guidelines, facemask-wearing, outside including, at least until June 30th”. Considered yourself warned!
