One really has to keep wearing facemasks “including outside, at least until June 30”. This warning comes from President of the Scientific Committee Jean-François Delfraissy. Interviewed this Tuesday June 8, 2021 in the morning on RTL radio station, the professor considered “it will be very difficult to keep facemasks on past June 30”, last date of the lockdown exit calendar announced this past April by the government.
Especially as Pr. Delfraissy stated a “new surge” of the Covid-19 epidemic in France was likely to happen “in September or October”. A 4th wave likely to be weaker than the previous ones because of the vaccination campaign always improving in France. Another reason to keep your mask up your nose still for a few days, although the head of the Scientific Committee stays realistic. “We need to be reasonable, people in the countryside, or at the beach, heading for a walk will think ‘hold on, experts, stop, we can wear facemasks where we need to’”, he thinks.
Furthermore, it is for these very reasons Delfraissy has been repeating a clear message over and over again: “We need to do it [wearing facemasks] specifically in very big cities. It will involve Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Nice, Bordeaux”, the scientist explains.
Covid: “4th wave likely in the Fall”, Jean-François Delfraissy thinks
As France is to start a new step from June 9 in the lockdown exit process, this Tuesday, on RTL radio station, Pr. Jean-François Delfraissy explained “we should have a summer in satisfactory conditions”. But the President of the Scientific Committee thinks a “fourth wave is likely in the Fall”, adding it “will be different from the others because of vaccination”.
Starting from June 9, closed places and gyms reopen to people. A lockdown exit coming with many risks, the professor considers. “A rather difficult moment is coming in a couple of days because so far, we were outside, and now, indoors are reopening. This is where everything will play out”, he says. “I’m not worried, if we stick to health guidelines, facemask-wearing, outside including, at least until June 30th”. Considered yourself warned!
Covid: is an epidemic surge from this Fall to be feared in France?
Invited on RTL this June 8, Head of the Scientific Committee Jean-François Delfraissy thinks "a fourth wave is likely this Fall", adding it will "be different from the others thanks to vaccination".
Facemask-wearing “could become a habit” especially in flu season, Castex thinks
As many people hope to be soon able to ditch facemask outside, the French Prime Minister thinks facemask-wearing “could undoubtedly become a natural protection means beyond Covid. (…) It could become a habit in the West, especially during the winter flu season”, he said this Tuesday May 11, 2021 in an interview with our peers from Le Parisien.
