As the coronavirus epidemic is resurging in France, the vaccination campaign goes on. This past July 12, Emmanuel Macron announced the implementation of a health pass to access some places open to at least 50 people, as well as compulsory vaccination for caregivers. "To prevent from making strong curbing measures, we need the health pass and vaccination. We must be able to control the epidemic outbreak", Jean Castex explained this Wednesday July 21 on TF1 TV channel. Where is the vaccination campaign at exactly?
As of August 6, 2021, about three-quarters of adult French have been given at least one shot already. 65.60 % of the population is at least prime-vaccinated. 54.60% of the French have been given all the necessary injections depending on their profiles and vaccine.
Gabriel Attal was happy with this increase in the vaccinee toll. "I see a crushing majority of the French have chosen vaccination. About three adults in four have been given a first dose. Many appointments have been made and people have planned to get vaccinated in the coming weeks", he said, this Friday August 6, visiting Avignon.
France has reached the symbolic threshold of 50%. One French in two is fully vaccinated: it means, they have been given two doses of Pfizer, Moderna or AstraZeneca, or one dose of vaccine if vaccinated with Janssen, or after catching the virus.
In a release, the DGS is happy since 34 million French (namely over half of the population) enjoy complete vaccination.
The regions the most ahead in terms of vaccination are Brittany (64.8%), Normandy (64.7%), and Nouvelle-Aquitaine (63.6%). In these areas, over 60% of the population have been given at least one dose of vaccine. Bad students are set in the PACA area and in Corsica, where only 57% of the population have been given their first dose.
Visiting French Polynesia, Emmanuel Macron does not wish to celebrate this step. "This is no finish line, this is a step. I'm happy it has escalated over the past ten days. People got aware, it is vital, but we need vaccination to go on", the French President told BFMTV.
The progress of the vaccination campaign seems to stick to goals set up by the government. "Since July 12, there have been over 3 million extra vaccination appointments. We have asked to accelerate, and deploy even more doses. Within the next 2 weeks, 5 million appointments will be made available. There will be 40 million vaccinnees by the end of the month, and 50 million by late August", Jean Castex claimed on TF1 this Wednesday. "I would like to reach 4 million vaccinations per week" from August, he added.
According to some estimations, it would be ideal that 90 to 95% of the French be vaccinated – all profiles included – to hope and reach herd immunity.
