Interview by France Inter this Wednesday October 17, the Head of the Scientific Committee considers the “fifth wave has been probably around since mid-October”.

Interviewed this Wednesday October 17, 2021 by France Inter about the fifth wave in France, the head of the Scientific Committee, Jean-François Delfraissy, considers it has settled in the country. “There is a clear speeding up in the fifth wave. It is coming to France, that was the good student along with Spain and Italy because of our vaccine toll, but it is here”, he claimed.

We are in the phase of winter the virus spreads the most, where we are indoors more often. The two differences in comparison with a year ago is the vaccine and the Delta variant that is a lot more transmittible”, he adds.

Tweet reads: “Covid-19: ‘The fifth wave has been probably around since mid-October’ confirms head of the Scientific Committee Jean-François Delfraissy”.

He goes on: “Predictions show there could be 1000, 1200, 1400 hospitalizations per day (…) perhaps from early December. We might be able to face the fifth wave on the condition we use all tolls. Vaccinating those who are not, the third dose, health guidelines, and the implementation of the health pass”. For your information, 74.9% of the French have been given two doses of vaccine to date.

It is extraordinary to have been given a vaccine this fast” that “protects very efficiently against the outbreak of severe disease”, the professor considers. But we must “know how to use them” because “they lose most of their effectiveness after five to six months, hence the interest of a third dose” and “do not protect enough against infection and transmission”.
