Coronavirus: 94.76% of Omicron cases suspected in Paris

This Tuesday 17 May 2022, according to Data.gouv.fr, 94.76% of Omicron cases are already suspected in Île-de-France. This mutation is now prevailing in the French capital city.

The coronavirus epidemic is breaking records in Paris. As the incidence rate is skyrocketing, especially in young people from 20 to 29, the situation faced with the health crisis is preoccupying in the area. Is this boom in new contaminations caused by the spread of Omicron in the Paris region?

The Parisian basin is badly hit by this variant even more contagious than Delta. According to data.gouv.fr, Omicron could be dominant in Paris. As of Saturday 14 May 2022, it is estimated 94.76% of coronavirus cases in Paris show absence of the L452R mutation characterizing the Omicron variant. This estimation is made based on data from Santé Publique France focusing on the proportion of variants in targeted positive tests and the total number of positive tests. This spread is correlated to the evolution of the incidence rate in the capital city.

As for the other Île-de-France departments (as of Saturday 14 May 2022), Omicron is found in 95% of cases in Val d’Oise, 97% in Val de Marne, 96% in Seine-Saint-Denis, 97% in Hauts-de-Seine, 97% in Essonne, 97% in Yvelines and 97% in Seine-et-Marne.
