The Bibliothèque Historique de la Ville de Paris will be unveiling its backstage areas for the Journées du Patrimoine 2023, on Saturday September 16 and Sunday September 17.

The Journées du Patrimoine are always an opportunity to discover places not usually open to the general public, and this new edition is no exception! Among others, the Bibliothèque Historique de la Ville de Paris (Paris Historical Library ) will be welcoming you behind closed doors on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th September 2023.

Marvel at the 16th-century reading room with its painted beams, and its impressive collection of antique books (over a thousand!). You can also explore the extension, inaugurated when the library moved here. It's also an opportunity to learn about the history of the building and its successive owners, as well as other remarkable items and objects not usually accessible to the public.

In 1763, the City of Paris decided to open a public library in theHôtel d'Angoulême-Lamoignon. However, the library was successively relocated to other buildings in Paris, before finally ending up in theHôtel de Ville de Paris. After a fire destroyed all its collections, the library was finally moved to theHôtel Carnavalet, before being moved again in 1968, within the walls of theHôtel d'Angoulême-Lamoignon, where it remains to this day.

    This 2023 edition is no exception to the rule and, among others, the Historic Library welcomes you behind back doors. Finally, discover the extension inaugurated in 1969 when the library moved here. You can also take part in presentations on the history of the building and its successive owners, as well as on some of the library's most remarkable items.

    The European Heritage Days are always an opportunity to discover places that aren't usually open to the general public. This 2023 edition is no exception to the rule and, among others, the Bibliothèque Historique de la Ville de Paris welcomes you behind closed doors on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th September 2023.

    From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., marvel at the 16th-century reading room, with its painted beams, and its impressive collection of old books (over a thousand!)... and discover the extension inaugurated in 1969 when the library moved here.

    During these Heritage Days, you can also attend presentations on the history of the building and its successive owners, as well as visit some of the library's remarkable rooms.

    Please note that admission is free on September 16 and 17, but subject to availability. So don't be late!
