If there's one monument to visit on Saturday September 16 and Sunday September 17, 2023, it's the Sainte-Chapelle, located on boulevard du Palais, and hidden from the general public by the Palais de la Cité, between the Palais de Justice and the Cour de cassation.
During the European Heritage Days, you're free to visit this magnificent monument. Situated just 300 metres from Notre-Dame de Paris, this Gothic monument is one of the capital's treasures: built in the 13th century, the Sainte-Chapelle is world-famous for its 1,113 stained glass windows, which reveal over a thousand scenes and let in light from all sides of the monument.
More than just a religious building, the Sainte-Chapelle is also an architectural treasure: it took just seven years to build the 33-metre-long, 42.5-metre-high monument between 1241 and 1248, complete with 1,113 stained glass windows. Its spire, reconstructed in the 19th century, rises seventy-five metres above the ground.
