European Heritage Days in Paris are an invitation to discovery. During this cultural event, come along and discover Paris as you’ve never had before. For this edition taking place on September 21 and 22, 2019 we offer you to discover the secrets of the Church of Saint-Sulpice.
Set in Paris 6th arrondissement, this church is listed as historic monuments since 1915. If its construction started in 1646, it required two centuries to end it, in 1870. It’s actually where Victor Hugo and Adèle Foucher tied the knot.
For European Heritage Days at the Church of Saint-Sulpice, you can take part in 1-hour tours taking you to places usually out of limits. They are held at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 2:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and at 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Da Vinci Code fans won’t miss the presentation of the astronomic gnomon on Saturday and Sunday from 1:15 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. The timing is perfect since this year, European Heritage Days take place almost at the same time as the equinox so that you can look at the sunlight on the Saint-Sulpice meridian if there’s enough sun.
You can also discover the wonders of the Church of Saint-Sulpice. Its treasures rarely exhibited will be unveiled on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Sunday from 12:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. You’ll admire pieces of liturgical ornamentations mainly dating back from the 19th century. Delacroix mural paintings adorning the Chapelle des Saints Anges are presented on Saturday September 21 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. And last but not least, for music lovers, you’re expected on Sunday from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. to attend a concert of the great organs of Saint Sulpice.
A lovely program ahead!
