Every year, the Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days) are an opportunity to discover many monuments and museums from a different angle, thanks to free guided tours and events for all! For the 40th edition of these European Heritage Days in Paris, thechurch of Saint-Sulpice opens its doors and its mysteries to you thanks to original tours, on September 16 and 17, 2023.
Located in the 6th arrondissement of Paris, this church has been listed as a historic monument since 1915. Although construction began in 1646, it took almost two centuries to complete in 1870. It was here that Victor Hugo and his wife, Adèle Foucher, were married. It's the largest church in the capital and one of the most famous, emblematic of the Saint-Germain district. Built on a small medieval sanctuary, the church's elegant classicalarchitecture is a sight to behold. It contains numerous works of art, including murals by Eugène Delacroix, a large Cavaillé-Coll organ and an astronomical gnomon.
