For European Heritage Days, the Père-Lachaise cemetery goes against the flow with a weekend (September 21 and 22, 2019) giving pride of place to women.

For European Heritage Days 2019 in Paris, some venues have decided to change their angle and organize days devoted to women. It’s what the Père-Lachaise cemetery has decided to do.

Considered as one of most famous cemeteries in the world, the Père-Lachaise cemetery is an unmissable landmark in Paris. It’s actually the largest cemetery within Paris. Whether it’s for its history, for the celebrities resting there, its funeral arts or its legends, the Père-Lachaise unleashes passions.

For these European Heritage Days, the Womenability association – working for gender equality – provides two exploratory walks in the Père-Lachaise cemetery. The theme of these tours is the discovery of the art works made by women. You’ll learn more about painter Rosa Bonheur, actress Sarah Bernhardt, as well as sculptors Charlotte Besnard and Laure Coutan. A wonderful way to promote women in the arts.

To attend these exploratory walks, meet at the main gates of the cemetery on Saturday September 21 and Sunday 22, 2019 at 3 p.m. for a one-hour tour.
