For European Heritage Days, the Sorbonne holds several events in this historic and cultural monument on Saturday September 21 and Sunday 22, 2019.

For European Heritage Days 2019, the Sorbonne opens and offers you several events to discover the richness of this Parisian university. Between exhibitions, art performances, concerts and heritage discovery, there’s something for everyone! Meet on September 21 and 22, 2019.

  • Paris Academy students’ works display

Come and discover the works of students specialized in fashion and elegance, decorative arts, photography and picture from Paris art schools and technical colleges. This year – and like for the previous years – the fashion universe is given pride of place with this exhibition displaying outfits designed by students.
This is also the occasion to discover the “MANUFACTO, la fabrique des savoir-faireprogram in partnership with the Fondation d’Entreprise Hermès aiming at making students from Paris Academy school, middle schools and high schools discover the universe of craft arts by accompanying them towards their calling by raising awareness about the “school of look”. Visitors can admire the works created by the students during the year 2018-2019.
Saturday September 21 and Sunday 22, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Discover the Sorbonne with an exclusive tour

From lounges to auditoriums, come and discover the Sorbonne’s exceptional heritage. A tour is set up and so are different instructive boards and works made by students from Paris Academy schools of art and high schools allowing visitors to find out more about some of the most prestigious areas in the Sorbonne.
Guides will also host “Q&A spots”. In addition to the tour of the historic premises such as the Palais Académique, the majestic Grand Amphithéâtre, the Salon Richelieu and its treasures, the Grand Salon, the Salle des Actes and even the formal Salle des Autorités; this year and for the first time since 1978, you can discover contemporary works of art that recently made it to the Sorbonne.
Stencil artist Christian Guémy – aka C215 – created 7 works, inaugurated in May 2019. This series of paintings called “Aux grandes femmes, la Sorbonne reconnaissante” features the portraits of celebrated women who have all studied or taught at the Paris University.
Places also closed to the public will be exceptionally open such as the Chapel, the Bibliothèque interuniversitaire de la Sorbonne, as well as the Louis Liard and Richelieu auditoriums.
Another exhibition is also displayed in the Palais Académique called “La Sorbonne, du théâtre universitaire aux études théâtrales” showing how the Paris University relied on academic drama to expand its influence and set up a new disciplinary field naming drama studies as an institution.
Saturday September 21 and Sunday 22, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Performances by Paris Academy high school students-artists

All along the tour of the Sorbonne, on Saturday afternoon, be surprised by art performances provided by Paris Academy high school students. Several forms of performing arts will be provided, such as dance, music and drama.
Saturday September 21, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Orchestre et Chœur des Universités de Paris concert

The Orchestre et Chœur des Universités de Paris is an association that gathers about 300 French and foreign students who play an instrument and sing; a special concert is held for European Heritage Days.

According to your taste and will, come and attend one or several events in this cultural and historic place offering on the occasion to return on its history and share today’s arts.
