For European Heritage Days 2020, the Sorbonne opens despite the health crisis. And good news, this year's theme is "Heritage and education: learning for life!" and echoes especially with the mission of this historic place. This is the occasion to discover every inch of the university and enjoy exclusive lectures, to delight children and adults. Meet on September 19 and 20, 2020 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This is free of charge and open to all. Yet, you must sign up from September 1, 2020 on the Sorbonne website. And facemasks are mandatory, of course.
It is time to admire the architectureal and artistic wonders symbolizing this high place of knowledge.
From lounges to auditoriums, come and discover the Sorbonne’s exceptional heritage.
The grand hall and the monumental statues of Archimedes and Homer, the peristyle adorned with mural paintings, the Grand Amphithéâtre, the Salon Richelieu and its treasures, the Grand Salon, the Salle des Actes and even the formal Salle des Autorités, as many places you can discover at will.
And even better, places usually closed to the public will especially open on the occasion. This is a rare opportunity to discover the Chapel, the Sorbonne's intervarsity library, as well as the Louis Liard and Richelieu amphitheaters.
And this year, admire contemporary works of art recently included in the Sorbonne. Stencial artist Christian Guémy – aka C215 – created 7 works, inaugurated in May 2019. This series of paintings called “Aux grandes femmes, la Sorbonne reconnaissante” features the portraits of celebrated women who have all studied or taught at the Paris University.
For European Heritage Days 2020, you can even come and be a student for the day for a lecture.
Make the most of it and dive into the past of the university thanks to lectures called "Histoire en Sorbonne, histoires de la Sorbonne" [History in Sorbonne, stories of the Sorbonne]. Meet in the beautiful Amphithéâtre Richelieu with a pen and notebook, please!
