Heritage Days 2018 at Les Invalides

To mark Heritage Days 2018, the Palais des Invalides and its Musée de l'Armée are opening their doors to us free of charge. Saturday, September 15 and Sunday, September 16, 2018, guided tours, workshops and concerts await you there!

Like every year, the Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days ) are an opportunity to visit monuments and museums that normally charge a fee, free of charge! This is the case at Les Invalides and the Musée de l'Armée, which, as every year, offer an extremely rich program for young and old alike!

On the Musée de l'Armée program this Saturday, September 15 and Sunday, September 16, 2018:

  • Discovering conservation: guided tour of restoration techniques, heritage preservation and current or completed operations, followed by a meeting with restorers from the museum's workshops / Saturday at 2.30pm and Sunday at 3pm, registration by e-mail with the museum, meeting point at the north reception.
  • In the footsteps of a young hero of the First World War: at the age of 22 in 1914, at the height of the Battle of the Marne, Saint-Cyprien became an exemplary soldier who ended the war with the rank of captain and the Legion of Honor. Follow in the footsteps of this exceptional soldier / Saturday at 2pm and 4pm, registration by e-mail with the museum, meeting point at the north reception.
  • Playful visit to mark the centenary of the Great War: rediscover the 14-18 war through the museum's collections. Between emblematic objects and intimate documents testifying to life in the trenches, the tour ends with the presentation of the recently restored Renault FT tank / Saturday at 1pm and 4:30pm, Sunday at 4pm, register by e-mail with the museum, RDV at north reception .
  • Women and War (1914-1918): although they were not present on the battlefields, women undoubtedly took part in the First World War and also rose to the rank of heroines. Follow the exceptional destinies of women such as Marie Curie, Anne Morgan and Louise de Bettignies / Saturday at 3pm and Sunday at 1pm and 3:30pm.
  • Maréchal Foch cross-curricular tour: discover the story of Maréchal Foch on this cross-curricular tour of the Hôtel de Noirmoutier, where the Maréchal spent the last years of his life and which is usually closed to the public, and the Musée de l'Armée. The tour begins at the Hôtel de Noirmoutier and continues at the Invalides, against the backdrop of the Great War / Saturday at 11:30 am and Sunday at 11 am, registration required on 09/15 or 09/16 at the Hôtel de Noirmoutier, where you will be given a ticket to present to the Musée de l'Armée, rendez-vous at the Museum's north reception.

  • L'historial Charles de Gaulle: discover the behind-the-scenes of this totally interactive space, from the genesis of the project to the design of the content! / Saturday at 12.30, 1.30 and 3.30 pm, please register by e-mail with the museum, RDV at the north reception desk.
  • Restoration workshops: take a behind-the-scenes look at the museum's metal, leather and textile workshops. Restorers will show you objects that have been restored or are in the process of being restored / Saturday from 1pm to 6pm, Sunday from 10am to 6pm, salle Turenne (free access)
  • Leather workshop for young visitors: discover leather restoration techniques with the whole family, and try your hand at a piece you can even take home with you! / Saturday and Sunday at 3 pm, 3:30 pm, 4 pm and 4:30 pm, ages 6 and up, registration by e-mail to the museum.

  • Plaisir d'Offrir: discover the unusual or prestigious pieces that have been donated to the museum... sometimes in surprising circumstances! / Saturday and Sunday free admission
  • Concert Entre Guerre et Paix: Durosoir, Janáček, Debussy, Enesco, Bartok and Sibelius will be interpreted by violinist François Pineau-Benois, who, for the occasion, plays on the instrument of Lucien Durosoir who, during the most tragic hours of the war, never gave up on music / Saturday at 4pm, free admission in the Grand Salon, subject to availability.
  • Concert Piano Main Gauche: having lost his right arm during the war, Austrian pianist Paul Wittgenstein commissioned numerous works for left hand only. In tribute to this great musician, Maxime Zecchini plays Debussy, Schulhoff, Bartok and Ravel ... left-handed/ Sunday at 4pm, free admission in the Grand Salon, subject to availability.
  • Premier salon parisien du livre d'histoire militaire: publishers and historians come together to let you discover our military history through their works. / Saturday, 1pm to 6pm, Sunday 10am to 5pm, open-air fair, at the foot of the Dôme church.
  • Musée de l'Armée partners' meeting: the Musée de l'Armée puts its partners in the spotlight! Find out more about the DGSE, the Ministry of Defence's Directorate of Heritage, Memory and Archives, the Defence Image Agency and the Société des amis du Musée de l'Armée by meeting them in the Salle Turenne... / Saturday from 10am to 6pm and Sunday from 1pm to 6pm, free admission in the Salle Turenne.
